Mary is a Civil Engineer by profession having graduated from Makerere University Kampala in 2007. She joined National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in Uganda as Junior Engineer in 2008, where she rose through her career to Principal Engineer. Mary holds a Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering from KU Leuven and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. She worked as a researcher in KU Leuven before enrolling for her PhD at KU Leuven, Belgium in collaboration with Makerere University Kampala. Mary completed her Doctorate in June 2017 under the Vlir-ICP PhD scholarship before returning to NWSC where she worked as a Principal Engineer in the Planning and Capital Development Directorate, in supervision and implementation of capital projects aimed at improving water production, sewerage coverage and alleviating water shortage problems in Uganda. Mary also worked in other Departments within NWSC including External Services, under the Business and Scientific Services Directorate, and the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Department, under Kampala Water of NWSC. She is currently Manager, Dam Safety & Water Resources at UEGCL where she leads her team in optimization of water resources for power production while ensuring safety of dams.
Mary seeks to integrate climate change, environmental sustainability and community involvement in management, infrastructural projects and agriculture. She is a dedicated civil engineer, skilled in Project management and implementation of water and sanitation projects. She is experienced in research and report writing. Mary has also demonstrated strength in achievement of high quality work standards and productivity, especially by raising staff motivation, teamwork and task accomplishments.
