Caught in Crisis

Caught in Crisis” is a compelling multimedia series that documents how East Africa’s vulnerable communities are being pushed to the edge by climate-fueled disasters. The investigation underscores how the Great Lakes’ fish stocks are under siege—from Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, mismanagement, and corruption, threatening the region’s economy, food systems, and fragile communities.

This collaborative reporting project spans DRC, Uganda, South Sudan, Kenya, and Tanzania, uncovering the deep-rooted environmental and human impacts of the region’s worsening climate shocks, from floods and droughts to food insecurity and forced migration.

On this episode of NileWell Science Wednesdays, we will get exclusive insights from the team of investigative journalists across 5 countries, hear from leading scientists on the environmental implications and learn how communities are navigating compounding crises.
