Polluted by the Guardians Launch

POLLUTED BY THE GUARDIANS

Polluted by the Guardians is a cross-border water sampling study conducted by InfoNile in collaboration with scientists in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. It uncovers growing pollution in Lake Victoria, the second-largest freshwater lake in the world, shared by three East African countries and home to over 40 million people.

In light of this, over one year, across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, journalists teamed up with scientists to collect and test water samples from key inlets feeding into Lake Victoria. Their findings? A disturbing rise in faecal contamination, chemical pollutants, and organic waste is endangering the lake’s fragile ecosystem and the livelihoods of millions who depend on it.

This launch event will highlight;

  • Key scientific findings and pollution trends
  • First-hand accounts from reporters in Kampala, Kisumu, and Mwanza
  • Expert reflections on regional policy gaps and what can be done to protect Lake Victoria

We’ll also host a short panel discussion with journalists and scientists behind the story, and open the floor for audience questions and feedback.
